This story didn’t require a great deal of research; that is, not much beyond the ordinary details it takes to put out a believable plot that doesn’t jar readers from the flow. Someday, I’ll share what has become known as the “Red Nipple Story,” but not here because that was another book. No doubt, there will be readers who quibble with the authenticity of the story arc itself. To that, I can only answer that people are individuals, and no two can be expected to confront addiction in exactly the same way. Even among those who are successful, some continue to struggle while others do not. Lily and Anna are nothing if not strong. One of the things I have learned over the brief course of my writing career is that it’s best to avoid dating a book with timely references (e.g., referring to a current president, the model year of a new car, OJ Simpson as your child’s football hero). I don’t want to spoil the story here, but I will tell you that I snatched this one back from the typesetter to make a major change. If you drop me a note after you read it, I’ll share what I did. |
