The first thing you should know is that KG MacGregor is a pseudonym. I’ve finally gotten used to signing that name in a book, but please feel free to call me Sue. I stole the KG part from my cats Katie & Gracie, and the MacGregor part from my ancestors.

I am a native of North Carolina, where my father was a US Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. Like most military families, we pulled up stakes every couple of years. Jobs and school have also kept me on the move, so I’ve lived all over. Several of the story venues I’ve used, such as Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee & California, are places I’ve lived or spent a significant amount of time. These days I reside mostly in the mountains of North Carolina, so it’s easy to think of it as home. I don’t mind the mountain winters as much as I used to, but a lifetime of pulling up stakes has conditioned me not to want to stay in one place very long. My partner Jenny and I are lucky we can run down to Miami when the snow starts falling.

I used to teach elementary school (frightening thought, isn’t it?), but I left the classroom in 1986 to pursue another career that let me blend my two favorite things—writing and math. I eventually earned a PhD in media research from UNC at Chapel Hill, and started work as a political pollster. From there, I branched into strategic market research, doing most of my work in publishing, television, travel and non-profits. I set that aside almost three years ago to write full-time, but the polls and politics still fascinate me.

The stories in my head have always been there, but when they bubbled over in 2002, I began to write them down. The cacophony of character voices seems to be my constant companion. I am forever grateful to the wonderful and kind readers of the Xenaverse, who gave me early encouragement and critique, and set me on course to find my publishing home with Bella Books.

When I’m not writing I love to hike. I also enjoy golf and any excuse to travel.
