Top 10 lists are a staple of the final week of December, and I hate to go against the grain. Besides, I did it last year so now it's a tradition. Here's a list of my 2009 highlights. Thanks to those of you who were a part of any, either attending an event, or just picking up one of my 2009 releases.
10. Getting a book out is a big event. Getting out 3 in the same year earns a spot on the Top 10 list. Not sure I’ll ever pull off that feat again. 9. Back in June I rolled through the Music City for a reading & signing at OutLoud in downtown Nashville. Besides being a fabulous LGBT bookstore, OutLoud is the pulse of the LGBT community in central Tennessee. Kudos to the staff & patrons for their commitment. 8. Worth Every Step was selected for inclusion in the 2nd Annual 20% New Works Festival put on by the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Project. I couldn’t make it to Hollywood this year, but I was there in spirit, so this event makes my Top 10 list. 7. The annual gathering of Xena fans in LA always makes my Top 10. The loyal, warm reception from fans of uber fiction makes me proud to claim my writing roots in the Xenaverse. 6. Last February I took the podium at the Stonewall Library & Archives in Ft. Lauderdale as part of their Distinguished Author Series. This is a fabulous event, and I’m pleased and proud to have been included. I’m working with Stonewall to line up more authors for 2010 in South Florida’s vibrant reading community. 5. On the heels of the Distinguished Author Series, I was invited back to Stonewall along with Karin Kallmaker to participate in the Gay & Lesbian Literary Arts Festival – 3 days of author & publisher chats among some of the most celebrated names in LGBT literature. 4. One of my favorite events of 2009 came out of a dinner chat with Ruth Perkinson & Lee Lynch, where we agreed it would be fun to do something together. That happened in February in the Village Courtyard in Gulfport, FL. Special thanks to Suzanne for the great photos. 3. I was proud to win Readers Choice Awards for Favorite Writer & Favorite Mystery (Secrets So Deep). If you want a voice in lesbian fiction, find it by becoming a member of their group. 2. The Golden Crown Literary Society conference is one of the biggest events of the year. I was extremely proud & grateful to win Goldie Awards for Without Warning (Contemporary Romance) and Secrets So Deep (Romantic Intrigue). 1. The top event of my year is an easy call. It’s hard to imagine having more fun as a writer than the Bella & Spinsters Ink authors had in Denver for our inaugural Y-Tour event. We put together 4 days of socializing, volunteering and reading, and we were thrilled to meet hundreds of new faces. Something tells me 2010’s Y-Tour events will make next year’s Top 10 too. Comments
