5.25 :: Rolling through the Music City

By now, you've probably seen our splashy ad for the Y Tour -- the one with the stunning golden torso and the hip tune by the Rescues that won't get out of your head. What? You haven't seen it? Or maybe you have seen it but were so entranced by said torso and tune that you didn't realize it was actually an ad for something having to do with books...authors...Habitat for Humanity...all meeting in Denver June 4-7 for an unforgettable event. Okay, go watch THE AD and come right back here for news about a side trip to Music City, USA.

On my way out to Denver, I'll be making a stop in downtown Nashville, TN, for an exciting night at the OutCentral Cultural Center and the OutLoud Bookstore & REVIVE Coffeehouse. First up, I get to rub shoulders with supporters of the Cultural Center, people committed to growing and sustaining our diverse community in Middle Tennessee. After a meet & greet, I'll be sharing a presentation on Creating Memorable Characters. Then we'll march en masse two doors down to the bookstore & coffeehouse, where I'll sign books and chat with the locals. That means I can whip out my Southern drawl without anyone even noticing. Times & locations can be found by clicking the Events tab above.

Across the past few decades, we've made dramatic strides as a community to be accepted into the mainstream, yet I fear those advances have come at a cultural cost. I don't have to tell you that our bookstores, coffeehouses and watering holes are disappearing nationwide every day. Places like the OutCentral Cultural Center, the OutLoud Bookstore & REVIVE Coffeehouse are our lifeblood and I hope you'll support them wherever you live.

While I'm in Nashville, I plan to chat up the folks from the local book club. If they'll have me, I'll make a return trip later in the summer. In the meantime, I'll scatter a few autographed books through the shelves for those who stop in.

Happy birthday to my bud, Susan X. Meagher! I'll be seeing her smiling face in New York on Thursday night (May 28) at the Lambda Literary Awards. Crossed fingers for Bella authors Karin Kallmaker, Jessica Thomas & Josie Gordon, and to Spinsters Ink author Ruth Perkinson.

Just finished Small Packages & just loved it! Andy & Anna were just as sweet & funny as I remembered. Really liked the adjustments & additions, especially the twist w/Karen. Felt it was a great touch & really added to the story & to the depth of the characters (Lily's especially).

Already looking forward to #4. ;-)
