9.24 :: Out from behind the 8-ball

If you've been following my updates, you'll recall that I warned you of a seismic shift should I ever get Photographs of Claudia off my desk. You should have felt that about 9 p.m. ET last night. Five weeks of gargantuan revisions on an already-late manuscript, but it's heading back to my editor now. There will always be something on my desk that screams for attention, but I'm going to savor this small window to relax. Six months of 12-hour days in my chair have wreaked havoc on my spine and I'm barely walking upright. Now I'm facing a couple of months of physical therapy, anti-inflammatories and painkillers, all of which had to be postponed until I finished my work.

I'm totally bummed to be missing the 20% New Works Festival this year in Hollywood, where director Dee Jae Cox is staging excerpts from Worth Every Step, Vada Foster's The Sea Captain & the Lady, and Jae's Backwards to Oregon. I've seen some of the promos on the lesbian fiction discussion lists, MySpace & Facebook, and I'm so jealous of all of you who are going. I was there last year for the staging of Aftershock, and I can promise that you'll be thoroughly entertained by the whole program. More than that, you'll be empowered by the combined spirit of so many creative women.

Speaking of women, Women's Week in Provincetown happens October 10-18. I'll be in town on Thursday & Friday of that week, signing both at Now Voyager and Womencrafts. A few of you have asked about getting together, and I hope you'll grab me off the street for coffee or ice cream, or maybe just an eye-opening stroll through the toy shops. I wish I could make firmer plans, but my window in town is very short and I have no idea how my back is going to hold up.

Thanks for all the nice words about Sea Legs!
