GCLS 2008

July 31 - August 3

The Golden Crown Literary Society is holding its annual conference at the Sheraton Wildhorse Pass Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. The tentative schedule is Meet & Greet on Wednesday night, workshops & panels on Thursday, keynote address by Katherine V. Forrest on Friday morning, followed by panels on Friday afternoon and Saturday. The Awards Banquet and dance are set for Saturday night.

Folks should be quite tired of me by the time we head home, because I'm on the schedule four times:

Th 9 - 10 a.m. Coffee Chat with Ruth Perkinson, hosted by Val Brown. Don't be fooled by the "chat" part. At that hour, it's about the coffee. Stop in and visit with us.

Fr 9 - 10:30 a.m. Stop Wasting Those Gigabytes: Making the Most of Your Author's Website. I'll be presenting on the research I did before launching this site. With luck, I'll have Elphaba the Web Witch at my side to explain all the technical gibberish. Readers & supporters are welcome, and we're sure to pick your brain.

Fr 4:30 - 6 p.m. The Me You Never See (panel). This panel is moderated by Ellen Hart, and my co-conspirators ... I mean co-panelists are Karin Kallmaker, Nann Dunne & Lori Lake. Still not sure what this one's about, but given this mix of people, it should be fun.

Sat 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Is Self-Publishing Right for Me? The title says it all. I'm putting this panel together and handling the moderating duties. Gretchen Stone, Cleo Dare & Katlyn have consented to sit in and offer their expertise. It should be lively.

If you haven't yet registered, you can do so at www.gclscon.com.

Update

As you've probably heard by now, the GCLS was fabulous. I posted a brief report in my blog, but I'll add a few photos here to give you an idea of how it went.

1 - Me with Ruth Perkinson, right before my presentation on Authors' Websites. Ruth worked the slide presentation and did a superb job.

2 - With the delightful Lisa Girolami at our Coffee Chat. Obviously, I was there for the coffee. (photo stolen from Lisa)

3 - Me with the adorable Val Brown, who bid $240 for the first dance. I would have danced with Val for free, but she insisted on supporting the GCLS scholarship fund.

4 - Karin Kallmaker (Winner, Erotica) & I showing off our Goldie Awards. What a wonderful way to celebrate the conference.

5 - At breakfast with Georgia Beers, Lisa & Karin. I love this photo. (which was stolen from Lisa)

6 - Yes, it's true. I stayed on Old Motor for ~40 seconds. Next time you're in Phoenix, check out the Cadillac Ranch. My partner's nephew runs the joint, and he showed us a great time.

7 - After the ceremony. (photo by Carmen)

8 - With the Girl of the Hour, KE Lane, who took home 3 awards for And Playing the Role of Herself.

9 - The Bella/Spinsters gang: me, Karin, Katherine V. Forrest, Ruth, Josie Gordon, & Jennifer L. Jordan
