Ruth Perkinson & I will be signing together Saturday in Asheville, NC. See the Events page for more details. And while you're waiting for us to show up, start reading Piper's Someday! I couldn't put it down. Now here's Ruthie with a Guest Blog. Don't say I didn't warn you.
I must tell everyone who reads this that I am fascinated with KG MacGregor. Who wouldn't be? She's a talented writer. She's hot. She speaks well. She's hot. She's funny. I can only start sentences with "she" it seems. Hmmm. Really though, she's taking me under her wing and has taught me a thing or two about books and the business. So, thanks, my friend. Much appreciated. I can see why you have a large following...I'm right with them all the way.
My second book, Piper's Someday, just released from Spinsters Ink and I went to Provincetown for several book signings and am elated that many lesbians love dogs. This is an international phenomenon. Who knew? Does every lesbian have a dog? If so, they should absolutely get this book...I am pleasantly surprised to see that writing a book about a young girl and her journey with her dog would go over well in the minds of potential readers - lesbian or not. The best part is when I say, "the dog does not die in the story," most people are relieved and take a chance on buying it. I'm glad because I wrote the story directly from the heart just after my dog lost her battle to cancer. Cancer sucks. (There's more! Click below.)
The good news is that my other dog, River, has pawed me up by the coattails and made me take her to Delta's dog training school over the last eight months. She is now a certified therapy dog and I have fired my psychiatrist. Psychiatrists charge way too much. River and I are setting up a booth where I live ala Lucy from Peanuts and will be charging the price of Piper's Someday only for an entire afternoon or evening session. This beats any shrink's hourly rate. River is an excellent listener.
I am officially inviting all lesbian authors and readers to follow KG MacGregor to come to Richmond, Virginia in 2008 for an unprecedented book signing to take place at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue. If this event does take place, I promise to wear socks only. Any takers?
Vera's Still Point is my debut novel. Given that this is a huge political year, I suggest that all candidates read it before really making up their minds about gay marriage and the edification of school-age young adults. Oooo, edification...such a big word. I need to run and look that one up.
Love to everyone, Ruth Perkinson
