two women on the run

Inspiration
Malicious Pursuit was my sixth story, and the first one that wasn’t a traditional romance. The idea “visited upon me” in the car. I was moving back east from the Bay Area in California, and made three trips in my Nissan Pathfinder, carting valuables and breakables to our homes in Miami and NC. I passed through Utah, which made me think of Sundance, which made me think of Robert Redford, which made me think of my favorite Redford movie, Three Days of the Condor. If you’re unfamiliar with that one, he’s a CIA agent who skips out for lunch and returns to his office to find all of his co-workers slain. He tries to come in from the cold, but discovers he is a target also. He hides out, with reluctant assistance from Faye Dunnaway. I wanted to retell that story, but obviously, with women. And I tend to write about ordinary people readers can relate to in their everyday lives.
